I wrote my “New Years” post just before Christmas and reflected on the things I needed to change for the upcoming year.
I listed the things that were holding me down by some seriously heavy chains. They were keeping me from being a better wife, a better mother, and a better Christian and daughter to my Heavenly Father.
You can check that post out here: 5 Strongholds I Need to Give to God in 2017
I mentioned in that post that I need to fight these strongholds with prayer. Every day. Every hour.
Temptation is strong and the battle we are fighting is not of this world, which makes it so easy to succumb to temptation. So we need to use the most powerful weapon God gave us to destroy the chains of the strongholds in our lives, the things that prevent us from becoming closer to Him, our spouses, our children, our family and friends as Christians.
We need to fight with Prayer!
After writing my post and thinking more about how to attack these strongholds head on, because let’s face it, I’m already struggling with them this new year. I can’t avoid the temptations but I CAN become aware of them and be prepared for when they begin to suck me in.
This led me to create my top 3 Prayers for 2017, for the top 3 things that are important to me: My marriage with my wonderful husband, the thing I struggle the most with-being the mother God wants me to be, and spreading God’s Word as I have felt a calling to do so.
1. My first prayer is for my marriage.
I wanted to be reminded every day of the common struggles we face and to remember to go to God with those struggles instead of attacking each other or trying to figure things out on our own. We need God for EVERYTHING! Trying to solve problems by ourselves makes life more difficult because we don’t have the solutions in the end anyways. Only God knows those solutions.
A Prayer for the Christian Wife:
Please help my husband and I learn about You together. Help us to pray and worship together daily and learn how to put You at the very center of our marriage. Help us to drop to our knees and go to You in every struggle and every trial we encounter as a couple. Help us to be patient, gentle, kind, compassionate, and loving to each other. Help me to respect my husband and submit to him the way You ask me to and help my husband to lead our family in Christ and be gentle and loving towards me. Help us to be quick to forgive and to love without conditions. Help us to cherish each other, to never take advantage of each other, and to support each other. Help us to honor You in all that we do in our life together and to thank You for every blessing in our life. Thank you for my husband, Lord – help me to be the wife to him that You created me to be.
2. My second prayer is for my ability to be a good mother to my children.
This is a prayer I desperately need to say. Every. Single. Day. I struggle most with this which is so frustrating. Having patience with my children is probably the stronghold with the heaviest chains on me and I so desperately want to break free of those chains TODAY so my children will thrive as they grow with my husband and myself as their parents. I want to raise my 4 boys to be warriors of Christ, to love our Lord, and for people to see the light of God in them as they grow. Join me in praying for your journey of God-centered parenting!
A Prayer for the Christian Mommy:
Help me to be the mother to my children You ask me to be. Help me to teach them how to love You, Lord. Help me to raise women of God and men who are warriors for Christ who will grow to teach their own families how to love You, too. Help me to teach them to go to You for every little thing in their lives, to lean on You for every worry, and to hand every burden over to You. Help me to raise my children in a joyful, loving, patient home centered around You. Please – I beg You! – give me PATIENCE with them, Lord. Please lead me to proper discipline – the kind You’d approve of that would teach them their lessons in life but also come from a loving standpoint. Help me to NOT punish in anger, Lord! Help me to be quick to listen and always slow to anger. Please, Lord! Teach me Your ways, not the ways of the world. Please prevent me from succumbing to my emotions so quickly when punishing. I need You every step of the way when raising my children, Father. After all, they are YOUR children first. Teach me how to raise them the way You want them to be raised!
3. My third prayer is for my journey as a Christian blogger in sharing God’s Word with others.
Blogging has become something I look forward to. Something I wish I could spend more time doing that I actually am able to! It is an incredible way to make an impact in people’s lives. I’ve received messages that I’ve done just that in only the two short months that I’ve been doing this. Those messages have been incredibly rewarding and I pray the Lord will continue to fill me with the Holy Spirit in my journey of blogging, especially as a Christian blogger, to continue to change other marriages and lives for the better!
A Prayer for the Christian Blogger:
Please fill me with Your Holy Spirit EVERY time I sit down to write. Help me to spread Your Truth – so others may begin to thirst for Your Word the way I am. Please use me to reach out to others to bring them to You. Please give me the wisdom to recognize and share Your Word so that it may be exactly what You want told. Help give me the words so that others may relate and be drawn into Your Truth, that they may experience peace and hope in every situation in their lives when reading it. Help me to arise, shine, and come into the light of Christ just like in Isaiah 60:1. Help me to find the potential You created in me to spread the light of Christ and please give me the strength and endurance to continue even when persecuted in Your name. Help me to see those persecutions as blessings and ways to show my love for You by accepting them generously. Thank You for my love of writing – my very own talent You gave me. Please help me to use it the way You intended it to be used from the very beginning.
Join me this New Year to go to God with the things that are holding us down. He can break those chains if we ask Him to! Prayer is the most powerful weapon against anything that is hurting us in our lives and the power of prayer cannot be matched.
